The PNWDigital Starter Codeplug for the C004D (4D) has some Gotchas:

WARNING:  Unlocked means that CPS has been enabled for frequencies from 100 Mhz to 999 Mhz.  The 4D can Rx/Tx successfully on VHF and 220 (and likely more)  Be very careful if you wander outside of the stock 400-480 Mhz.  Tx purity outside of UHF is unknown at this time.  Use at your own risk.

VHF has been enabled, be very careful if you TX on VHF.
The antenna is barely adequate for UHF, it is very poor on VHF. (see mods)
VHF (100-999 Mhz) is not guaranteed and be safe by Rx only

There is no digital monitor so Rx Groups have been added to some channels
Use scan to be able to hear most traffic on both times.  
There is Scan RX All channel in the starter

The single button is set for high and low power with a short press and
Monitor for a long press (it appears to be for analog only)

Analog and Digital Simplex are in the sampler.
